Five GB women’s teams. Two days. Four sessions each. Five preparation games. The final GB Maxibasketball women’s training camp — held last weekend at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena — is complete, and the countdown to Athens has truly begun.
The weekend was as demanding as it was inspiring. Players competed in a series of final preparation games testing fitness, tactics, and team cohesion ahead of the European Championship 2026. Our medical team — Dr. Elton Chawatama and Dr. James Stronge, supported by medical students from the University of Nottingham — completed concussion protocols for every player as part of our clinical governance programme, with all medical supplies provided by Sterosport.
Players were mostly accommodated throughout the camp at the Mercure Nottingham Sherwood Hotel, and Saturday evening brought a special ceremony at The Village Hotel, Nottingham, where players were formally presented with their official GB playing uniforms — supplied by Sporting Touch — and GB flags were handed to captains and leadership groups across all five squads. Staff were also recognised for their commitment throughout the season.
GB Maxibasketball operates as part of the England Talent Pathway to GB representation, formally recognised by Basketball England, a proud FIBA member organisation.
With the European Championship now just weeks away, our women travel to Athens with five squads ready, prepared, and proud to wear the GB colours.
Thank you to all our partners: Nottingham Wildcats Arena, Sporting Touch, Sterosport, Mercure Nottingham Sherwood Hotel, The Village Hotel Nottingham, the Universities of Greenwich and Nottingham, and Basketball England.
Let’s go GB. Athens, we’re coming. 🏀🇬🇧
