GB Maxibasketball Women 35+ Retain Gold at GB Masters Basketball Championship
Our GB Maxibasketball Women 35+ team have struck gold again — winning the GB Masters Basketball Championship in Cardiff this weekend and going unbeaten to retain the title for a second consecutive year.
Under Head Coach Roberta Guerrina and Assistant Coach Ilze Holsteina, the team delivered four commanding wins across the tournament:
Game 1 v WEBBA: 51-5 (win)
Game 2 v TSK: 50-27 (win)
Game 3 v UTB Masters: 47-8 (win)
Final v TSK: 57-17 (win)

Speaking after the tournament, Head Coach Roberta Guerrina said:
“It was a useful warm up event for us. We ran the break, but pulled back to run the offence when necessary — these girls played beautiful team basketball. They were moving the ball so well, even against stronger opposition, focusing on their set plays and tough defense. I feel we are now ready for whatever the Athens Championship may bring!”
The gold medal serves as the perfect send-off ahead of the team’s next challenge: the FIMBA Athens Maxibasketball Championship, which kicks off on Saturday 26 June. In a nine-team competition, the GB Maxis Women 35+ have been drawn against Germany and Bolivia in the first round.
We send our heartfelt congratulations to the whole squad and coaching team on a superb performance in Cardiff, and our very best wishes as they head to Athens to compete on the international stage!
