GB Maxis set for Munich as FIBA confirms FIBA Masters Open 2027

FIBA has officially confirmed that Munich, Germany will host the FIBA Masters Open 2027 from 7 to 15 August 2027. It’s the second edition of FIBA’s flagship international event for masters basketball, and GB Maxibasketball will be there.

Building on Corinth
The first FIBA Masters Open took place in Corinth, Greece earlier this year and brought together nearly 1,000 players aged 40 and over from around the world. GB Maxibasketball was proud to have the only British team taking part. It was a fantastic experience on and off the court, and it showed how strong the global masters basketball community has become.

What’s new for 2027
Munich promises to raise the bar even further:

  • Opening ceremony at BMW Park, with games played across sports halls throughout the city
  • 3×3 competition at Pineapple Park, FC Bayern Basketball’s streetball venue
  • 15 age categories, starting at 40+
  • Wheelchair basketball included for the first time

The event is being delivered by FIBA in partnership with the German Basketball Federation (DBB), the City of Munich, FC Bayern München eV, FC Bayern Basketball and the Bavarian Basketball Association.

FIBA COO Patrick Mariller said: “The strong support from the Masters community and growing interest from National Federations have demonstrated enthusiasm for this important new event.”

Adrian Sarmiento of FC Bayern Basketball added: “We want to create an international celebration bringing people from all over the world together.”

The GB Maxis delegation
We plan to send a delegation of up to 14 teams to Munich, including 3×3 squads, across our men’s and women’s age categories.

FIBA’s age categories start at 40+, so we’ve made sure our younger masters players also get international competition. Our GB Men 35+ and GB Women 35+ teams will compete at the Masters Basketball World Cup 2027 in Croatia, 13–18 April 2027.

Our final open trials take place this weekend (women) and next week (men). After that, the work begins in earnest at our training camps through to summer 2027.

Coaches wanted
We’re still looking for coaches to join our staff team for Munich. If you’d like to be part of a high-performance, friendly and ambitious programme and help represent Great Britain on the international stage, email info@gbmaxibasketball.co.uk.

Players
Registration for the 2026/27 season has now closed. If you’ve been invited to our final camps, please confirm your place and pay your training fees as soon as possible. If your plans have changed, let us know so we can offer your place to another player.
