Due to our GB squad expansion, we are seeking qualified (or under-graduate) Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists, Sports Massage Therapists and Strength & Conditioning Coaches who have an interest in expanding their professional experience in performance sport, and in particular working with mature athletes on a voluntary basis. We are delighted to offer several professional development opportunities working alongside GB Maxibasketball male and female squads, as they prepare for the World Maxibasketball Championships from 25 August to 3 September 2023 in Argentina.
Maxibasketball is the competition category for players aged 35 years and older, as prescribed by the Federation of International Maxibasketball (FIMBA). Maxibasketball in the UK is an amateur sport, self-funded by its participants. Nonetheless, the GB Maxibasketball programme is run to national team standards and our teams are training in a performance-led environment. Our eight male & female teams competed at the European Maxibasketball Championship 2022, with five of those teams achieving medals, including a Gold and Silver. Building on that success, the programme is seeking to expand its volunteer SSEM pool as we look to prepare teams to compete in Argentina and in smaller European tournaments in 2023.
Therefore we are offering the opportunity for further therapists and S&C coaches to join the pool of performance support staff volunteering in this national programme. The training and competition programme is shown on our Events page, and SSEM staff will benefit from hands-on practical experience and learning in a mutually supportive performance environment led by respected and experienced SSEM practitioners. We don’t expect our professionals to commit to attending all the camp opportunities – we know your time is money, so the SSEM team operates on a rotational basis, allowing the experience working with all age categories, both male and female.
