GB Maxibasketball is pleased to announce the appointment of Alasdair Sinclair as its new Men’s Coaching Programme Lead.
Known throughout the programme as “Ally,” Sinclair led the GB Maxis M55+ team to a bronze medal at the FIMBA European Championships in Athens in 2026 — a first ever European or World Championship medal for the M55+ age category, adding to GB Maxibasketball’s growing medal history, which includes gold, silver, bronze and fourth-place finishes across the 2019, 2022, 2024 and 2025 championships. He joined GB Maxibasketball during the 2024/25 season and its become clear that Ally is a passionate advocate for coaching, coach development and mentoring within high-performance environments.
Ally brings over 18 years’ experience as a coach educator, currently serving as Senior Coach Education Tutor for Basketball Scotland alongside his role as a Primary Teacher. His coaching career spans club, regional and national level, including spells as Head Coach of the Scotland U14 Boys National Squad and the Scotland U14 Boys Regional Academy. At club level, he helped grow NL Chiefs Basketball Club into one of the largest clubs in Scotland, building a volunteer network of more than 40 people and guiding the club’s U14 to Senior squads into Division 1 National League competition.
On his appointment, Ally said:

The opportunity to work alongside dedicated players, coaches, and staff who are committed to pushing boundaries and building excellence is truly exciting. I’m really excited about this opportunity and am looking forward to getting stuck into the work this season.”
Ally takes over as Men’s Coaching Programme Lead from Jesse Sazant, who steps down after four seasons at the helm of GB Maxis’ men’s programme. GB Maxibasketball thanks Jesse for his outstanding contribution in helping to shape the men’s programme, and wishes him well in his future path.

Like all GB Maxibasketball staff, Ally’s role is voluntary — a reflection of the self-funded, volunteer-driven ethos that underpins the entire programme.
