GB Maxibasketball Welcomes Oktay Huseyin as Strength & Conditioning Coach

GB Maxibasketball is delighted to announce the appointment of Oktay Huseyin as Strength & Conditioning Coach, joining our team as we build towards the next FIBA Masters Open.

Oktay brings 15 years of high-performance experience across Ireland, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. He was the first-ever full-time Head of Physical Preparation and Sport Science for the Irish Tennis Federation, where he helped align the national centre with ITF Gold Standard criteria and introduced individualised training load and wellness monitoring — work significant enough to be presented at the World Tennis Coaching Conference in 2019. He has also worked as a consultant sports scientist for British Tennis at the Gosling High Performance Centre, and most recently spent two years in Australia and New Zealand, including as Head of S&C for Essendon Royals Women’s Football Club and as a Sports Trainer on the AFL Umpires Pathway, before taking up his most recent role as Head of Physical Development at Lavie Tennis Academy in New Zealand.

Notably for our programme, Oktay has real depth in supporting female athletes at every stage — from menstrual cycle education and RED-S awareness to injury surveillance systems — experience that speaks directly to the needs of our masters athletes across the 35-65+ age range.

He holds an MSc in Strength & Conditioning from the University of East London and a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science from Kingston University, alongside certifications including NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and British Weightlifting Level 2 Coach.

On joining, Oktay said:

“I love challenges, especially ambitious projects where you are trying to build something special; that’s what I enjoy getting stuck into. I’m excited to be part of a team that is passionate and are doing it for the love of the sport, and working towards the goal of being successful at the next FIBA Champs. I am a team player; I am an avid learner and obsessed with finding ways to minimise effort but maximise outcome. I am here to support the athletes and technical staff as best as possible and create an environment in which they can perform at their best, while competing hard and creating beautiful memories.”

Like all of our staff, Oktay joins GB Maxibasketball as a volunteer, giving his time and expertise to a programme built entirely by people who believe in what masters basketball can be. We couldn’t be more excited to have him on board.
