GB Maxis welcome Lily Gaskell as Strength & Conditioning Coach

GB Maxibasketball is delighted to welcome Lily Gaskell to our support staff as a Strength & Conditioning Coach. She joins us as our men’s and women’s squads build towards the Masters Basketball World Cup in Croatia and the FIBA Masters Open in Munich in 2027.

Lily is an international athlete as well as a coach. As Coach and Captain of England Roller Derby, she led England to Bronze at the 2025 World Cup in Innsbruck and was named World Cup MVP. In 2026 she made history again as the first and only woman to represent England at the Men’s Roller Derby World Cup in Orléans, France.

Away from the track, Lily has been a professional strength and conditioning coach for more than a decade. She works with athletes from a wide range of backgrounds, with a particular focus on contact sports and women’s strength training. She coaches and programmes at high-performance facilities in Sheffield and has led coaching tours across the USA, Canada and Europe. She is currently studying for an MSc in Strength & Conditioning Coaching at Sheffield Hallam University.

Her specialisms include Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, speed and agility, and athlete testing and data analysis, using tools such as force plates, speed gates and velocity-based training. She also competes in strength sports herself: she was runner-up in Yorkshire’s Strongest Woman 2024 and joint winner at the Highland Games the same year. When she isn’t coaching, she runs TruPig Vegan, her multi-award-winning handmade chocolate company.

Lily said:
“I’m really excited to be welcomed in, and look forward to working alongside other SSEM professionals adding value to the programme.”

Lily will join us at our final training weekends before Christmas: the women’s squads on 14–15 November and the men’s squads on 5–6 December. We’re looking forward to her ideas and experience as we prepare to select our final squads for Croatia and Munich.

Welcome to the GB Maxis family, Lily!
