Sharing a brief review of the GB Men’s Maxibasketball September training weekend, which took place the weekend of 11 & 12 Sept in Sheffield. The coaches continued to assess individual and team skills, whilst a few squad members stepped into different leadership and motivational roles. This included taking on team warm up and cool down routines (in the absence of our beloved S&C Coaches), organising social time together and a few others acting to ensuring camp remained a safe environment for everyone by taking on the unpopular role of sending the 8am daily Covid LFTs reminders!
Following a successful camp, the GB Maxis coaches selected their 20 players from each age category to be invited to the next training camp at the National Basketball Performance Centre, Manchester in October. They also named 12 players who would represent GB Maxis at the MAMBAsket5 friendly tournament in Cartagena, Spain towards the end of this year – congratulations to those players and we look forward to seeing you in action!
For players that did not progress to the next camp, there was understandable disappointment, but it was great to see those same players wishing their remaining squad members good luck going forward. A great attitude and team spirit on their part; and we will of course welcome those players back to the GB Maxibasketball programme if they wish to try out for future campaigns. Just keep on playing!
