Earlier this month, GB Maxibasketball training camps were held on two consecutive weekends at the National Basketball Performance Centre (NBPC), Manchester for both the womens and mens squads, with well over 130 players in attendance plus coaches, team managers and performance support staff. GB Maxibasketball continues to consolidate its performance ethos, as demonstrated by the calibre of participants still being attracted to it since December 2020 when the programme was recognised in Basketball England’s talent pathway for players to represent Great Britain, and gained elite status. It is the only national maxibasketball performance programme in the UK to be officially granted this status by the govening body in England, where the programme is based.
For GB Maxis women, 2 – 3 October 2021 was their sixth training camp, and saw several players travel from the United States to join other UK-based squad members at the NBPC. As expected, with it being the first weekend of the resumption of WBBL/NL competition, a few players and staff were unable to attend however with selection looming those that did attend had ample opportunity to show the coaching teams what they could do in order to be considered for a place in the final 15s.
It is anticipated the final GB Maxibasketball teams for the FIMBA Maxibasketball European Championhips 2022 in Malaga will be named in December after the MAMBAsket International masters event in Murcia, along with their respective coaches and support staff.  GB Maxis women will be back on the training court before then in November, in Sheffield, but until then you can see some highlights from the Manchester performance camps here.
