With the XI FIMBA European Championship just 106 days away, GB Maxibasketball’s Mens 35+ team will be hosted by national league Division 1 outfit, Hemel Storm on Saturday April 16th 2022 with a 7pm tip.

It will be a special night at the Storm Dome, which will see the return of former Storm stalwarts Simon “Spud” Kearney, Tom Adorian and Walid Mumuni, who are representing Great Britain. The game also signals the Club’s acknowledgment of the players incredible long-term loyalty and huge contribution to the growth of the Hemel Storm Club. They will also be recognising another club player, Bode Adeluola, who will have completed 10 seasons at the club.

GB 35s are coached by Liam Jefferson who says:

“We are very grateful to Hemel for agreeing to host us in our preparation for the European Championships this summer. To be able to use the game to celebrate the accomplishments of some of our own guys, who once pulled on a Hemel jersey and did so much for the club, will also make it a great event. After several training camps this will be our first competitive game as a group, but we are really developing our identity and playing an exciting brand of basketball that people will enjoy watching and supporting. We’re really looking forward to testing ourselves against the Storm.”

Jon Burnell, Storm’s Director of Basketball added:

“As we plan for a positive end to the current season, we’re delighted to host this event which we hope is a perfect way for Liam and his team to prepare for Spain but also to thank some of our longest serving players. It’s right that we thank Bode,Tom, Walid and Spud; they have played over 500 games between them for Storm and have been central to our success over a very long period of time. This will be the final game at the Dome until September and its a great way to finish this season and to thank our fans and sponsors for their incredible support this year.

With the GB Maxis 35+ due to face opposition from Hungary, Slovenia and the tournament hosts Spain, at the championship in June, as Coach Jefferson has said, preparation games such as these are invaluable.  GB Maxis Men’s teams are next due to train a few weeks time, and will look forward to putting their team skills on the floor against a highly competitive Hemel Storm team thereafter.
