Last weekend’s GB Maxis’ men’s open training camp was graced by a sprinkling of home nation ex-international players, and this weekend was no different! Our women’s camp also had it’s fair share of returning GB Maxis’ players, including some of our Gold medal winning players and staff from the Euros in Malaga. There was also an appearance at the end of the day from none other than GB’s veteran hot hand and Commonwealth Games 2022 3X3 Silver medalist Chantelle Handy! (Yup, we are scouting her for GB Maxis development squad already, lol! )
Chan was actually here for her 5pm WBBL game with Caledonia Pride on court against Nottingham Wildcats, but took a moment out to say hello to former GB U18 Team Manager, and GB Maxis player, Sadie Mason. The two were last teamed up with Head Coach Vanessa Ellis as members of the Great Britain staff at the FIBA U18W Div B Europeans in Austria 2018.
Anyway, before the celebrity appearance, GB Maxis Women’s programme lead CJ Lee opened our second 2022/23 women’s training camp for players aged 35+ to 60+. It was another well attended camp at Nottingham Wildcats Arena, and again we were happy to welcome the GB 60+ players who took part at the European Championships 2022. With all three courts in use, it was good to see the variety of ages and skills on display, at all ages. Former 2014 WBBL player, Katie Pickering, had this to say:
” Was an awesome weekend with some great coaching and basketball being played. Had a blast, thanks for having me!”
