Bringing home some silverware!
It’s silver medals for both our M35+ and F35+ teams at the end of the European Maxibasketball Championship 2024 in Pesaro, Italy, with some respectable finishes across the board!
Despite coming into the tournament as reigning European F35+ Champions, a return to the top of the podium was not to be for Coach Steve Butler’s Great Britain F35+ squad, as they were defeated 43-56 by an extremely tough Lithuanian team in the final gold medal game.
Meanwhile, Coach Liam Jefferson’s M35+ team retained their position as European silver medalists for the second time in succession, adding to the silver medal won at the previous championship in Malaga 2022. Their gold medal game was against Spain; our GB M35a had a slow start which enabled the Spanish team to establish a 16 point lead in the first half, and despite a strong second half comeback by GB, they went down 80-88 to the Spanish outfit.

GB Maxi F55 – 6th place
GB Maxi M40 – 6th place
GB Maxi F40 – 7th place

GB Maxi M50 – 11th place
For the first time this year, we introduced three organizational awards to recognise players at this years European Championship in the following categories:
Top Performer – Huge congratulations to Laura Shanahan (F35+) and Stefan Gill (M40+) for taking home the honours
Our second award, Growth at International Level recognises two players who have established themselves at the international level through their time with the programme – our congrats go to Pawel Szczepanik (M45+) and Christie Rourke (F40+).
Our final award in loving memory of our dear friend Keith Kelly, to recognise the Spirit of the GB Maxis programme. Congratulations to Lynda Bryan (F55+) and Scotty Russell (M40+).
