Last weekend our
GB Men’s 35+ squad travelled to Colchester, Essex to take part in a single day camp as they prepare for the
FIMBA Ticino 2025 World Championships in Switzerland.
As part of camp, they played their first warm up fixture of the year against D3 side Essex Charge. Despite the narrow loss, the group got better and we are that one step closer to being ready for June.
Head Coach Donnie Cabrera had this to say:
“It is great to get the guys together this weekend and compete, it is important that we use each moment we’re together to get everyone buying in to the system and culture of how we play. Although we fell short in the fixture, we know as a collective group that we got better throughout the day and that’s all part of preparation. We are focused on winning in June, so we will continue to build on this weekend and be ready come tournament time.”
Meanwhile, our GB Men’s 55+ squad made the most of an additional training and game session as they continue their preparations for Ticino. Hosted by a Leicester select team at Ellesmere College, the match provided a valuable opportunity for the squad to refine their strategies, with Leicester adjusting their defence throughout to challenge and support the GB team’s development.
All players made meaningful contributions, with Paul Chantler (Wes) standing out by sinking five three-pointers during the game. The GB squad secured a 51-44 victory, but more importantly, gained crucial practice ahead of the World Championship competition, which is now less than two months away.
Reflecting on the session, Asst. Coach Ally Sinclair remarked:
“It has been fantastic to come together ahead of the May camp. The team has really started to gel, and I was particularly impressed by our defensive intensity and offensive spacing.”

These additional sessions mark another important step as the GB Maxi squad builds momentum toward their upcoming challenge in Ticino. Both teams will join our GB 45s and GB 50s in May for their penultimate combined weekend preparation camp, and we look forward to seeing them back on court then.
