GB Maxibasketball is delighted to announce the recruitment of two new coaches to the programme ahead of the FIMBA European Championship 2026, Athens.
First up is Surrey-based Coach GEORGE GALIATSOS. Born in Athens, he started playing basketball at a competitive level with Kallithea Eagles and Esperos Kallitheas before moving to the UK. George is a member of Wolfpack Mohegans basketball club, and is Lead Coach for the team who compete in the Wessex Basketball league.
George is also studying for a Level 4 Professional Diploma in Basketball Strength & Conditioning with Barça Innovation Hub (FC Barcelona) and plans to pursue his Level 3 Coaching Course, continuing to grow as both a coach and performance specialist.
George shared his motivations for joining our programme, saying:
“I am looking forward to working with everyone at the GB Maxibasketball programme. I see it as a great opportunity for me to pass on my knowledge and help the players. Originally from Greece, I am excited to experience this opportunity in my home country. I take pride in being passionate as well as competitive, and hope to be able to share these attributes with the team.”
We’re also pleased to introduce Coach JOHN MANZON pictured below. Born and raised in Newham with Filipino roots, John has been playing and loving basketball since primary school. However, it was only in September 2021 that he got into coaching full time, placing a focus on improving player performance at an individual level. Coach Manzon’s main goal moving forward is just to be a better coach each year, wherever that brings him.
John said: “I am looking forward to being able to experience coaching basketball at an international team level with GB Maxibasketball. I believe this opportunity will not only help me improve as a coach but be able to learn from every aspect of the game both on and off the court. “
Both coaches will join the GB Maxis coaching programme in September at our open training and selection camps in Nottingham. Welcome to the GB Maxibasketball family George and John! We hope you will both enjoy developing and sharing your skills with us this year.
