GB Maxibasketball Training

The 2025/26 national teams training programme began the weekend of 13 & 14  September 2025 in Nottingham for women, and 20 & 21 September 2025 for men.  Further open sessions will be held between October and December 2025, following which final teams of 12 players maximum per age category (and up to 3 reserves) will be selected and announced  in January 2026 to represent Great Britain in the FIMBA European Maxibasketball Championships in Athens (26 June to 5 July 2026.), with the GB Men’s 50+ team competing at the FIBA Masters Open 2026, also in Greece from 4-12 July 2026.

The 2026/27 programme dates are also available ahead of the FIBA Masters Open 2027 (host nation to be announced in March 2026).  Check out the Events Calendar below and use the ‘Load More’ button for further details and please use the Contact Us form for any inquiries.

GB Maxibasketball programme provides players and coaches with the opportunity to participate in a variety of international competitions organised by basketball’s world governing body, FIBA (Federation of International Basketball) and also by the privately constituted entity known as FIMBA (International Federation of Maxibasketball) .

FIMBA has organised World and European Championship events since 1991.  In the absence of an equivalent FIBA competition, GB Maxis have taken part in these championships since 2019 and we are scheduled to take part in the FIMBA European Maxibasketball Championship 2026.

However, on 4th December 2025, the Central board of FIBA announced the inclusion of the masters age category as part of the FIBA family and, in celebration of this, will hold an inaugural FIBA Masters Open 2026 championship next year in Greece, supported by by Hellenic Basketball Federation.

Finally, the International Masters Games Association (IMGA) organises the World Masters Games, which are endorsed and recognised by the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees.  This is a festival of sport that brings together athletes from around the world to enjoy different sports and meet like-minded people in vibrant city destinations.   The IMGA basketball competition usually takes place over five days.
