GB Maxibasketball Women’s Programme
The GB Maxis Women’s performance programme began late in the 2017/18 basketball season, and is credited with preparing the first ever British teams (in the 40+ and 50+ categories) to compete in a World Maxibasketball Championships in Helsinki 2019, with their Women’s 50+ team achieving a 4th place championship medal. This success has contributed to the growth of the programme; our GB Women’s 35+ team were crowned European Maxibasketball Champions in Malaga (2022), and alongside our Women’s 45+ and 50+ teams who secured creditable 4th place European Championship medals at the same event.
The end of the Covid-19 pandemic saw more European teams return to the Pesaro 2024 championship; our GB Maxis 35+ team reached the gold-medal game, but lost out to a very strong Lithuanian team in the final. They are current European Championship silver medalists and 2025 World Championship 4th place medalists.
Looking ahead to the next European Championship 2026 in Athens, Greece, registration for open training sessions in September and October 2025 is now available to players in categories from 35+ through to 60+. Check our latest news article for details of how to express an interest.
